Snow Goggle iggaak in Arctic

 

Snow Goggle also knowns as Unuktitut or iggaak are major type of historical eyewear used by Inuit and the Yupik people, who habitats in Arctic. In arctics, the time-of-day light in summer could last all day long throughout the summer.

Summer in Arctic

`        Walrus is one of few abundant resources in Arctic, in today, the estimated walrus number is 5000 and 10,000 pcs. The Snow goggle as snow as iggaak is made out of walrus ivory. The length of average ivory tusk can be 30 inches long.

Caribou as know as reindeer has population of 201,000.

 

 

For strap they use Caribous antler. The antler is so strong. The resource of the sinew is from their muscle strip, it is long, thick muscle from the rear leg of caribous, and it is made into sinew.

 

         The brief process of sinew is, strip away the back side of muscle, dry on dry for a few days, after few days of drying, it can be strip like a thread. After soaking with water for few hours, it is soft enough to be woven by hand. The sinew thread is also hard enough to be used as needle. As result they are made in to shelters, pants, and shirts.
